Will this treatment damage my client’s hair?

Absolutely not! The Peter Coppola® a-Keratin Smoothing & Refinishing Treatment is used to smooth and help promote healthy, strong hair.

STYLIST NOTE* There is always a level of damage that is not suitable for any further chemical services - in the event your client is looking for a treatment but their hair is not at optimal integrity (ie. cannot withstand the heat of the service and doesn’t have enough elasticity) advise the client to use a Peter Coppola® hair mask at home once or twice a week for a few weeks to help get the hair back to normal condition prior to performing an in-salon treatment.

Does this treatment contain formaldehyde or aldehydes or produce dangerous fumes as other keratin treatments do?

No, our treatment is completely free of formaldehyde and aldehydes and gives off no dangerous fumes.

Please feel free to request our certified lab analysis for details.

Is this treatment safe for all hair types?

Absolutely! Peter Coppola® has designed an effective Keratin Smoothing & Refinishing treatment that is safe for all hair types. When performing the treatment on thicker textured hair, be sure to follow specific processing instructions for best results.

Will my client’s hair be straight after the treatment?

Your client’s curls will be reduced up to 85%, which will result in straighter hair. Ask your client their desired finished look and cater the treatment accordingly. Smooth and straight hair will be much more manageable for your client after this service. Additionally, client’s frizz will be drastically reduced.

Will the client be stuck with stick-straight hair?

Absolutely not! This treatment offers your client versatility; your client will leave with healthy, frizz free hair in the style you all decide.

Will the client’s hair lose its volume or be flat?

No, with the Peter Coppola® a-Keratin Smoothing & Refinishing Treatment, they can leave the salon with a voluminous, curly or smooth look. The style decision is between you and your client. We provide the system, you create the look!

Can my client do a treatment if pregnant or breast-feeding?

The active ingredients in our products are common to everyday health and beauty aids; however, we recommend that you advise clients to consult their own physician before applying any in-salon treatment when in a more delicate condition such as being pregnant.

Can I do this treatment on a child, who has very curly hair?

We do not recommend the treatment be performed on children 13 years and under.

How long after a treatment must my client wait before washing their hair?

For best results it is recommended that your client wash their hair 24 hours after your treatment.

Be sure to recommend only Peter Coppola® Sulfate & Sodium Chloride Free shampoos and conditioners to help maximize the benefit of and extend the life of the treatment and guarantee results.

May the client use a hair tie or clips in their hair after receiving the a-Keratin Smoothing and Refinishing Treatment?

Yes, your client may safely secure their hair without the concern of banding or indenting the hair.

How long after a treatment must I wait to color my clients’ hair?

Perform all color services 24 hours after the treatment is completed. Our treatment process may slightly lift, lighten and bring out previous highlights. Color correction should be very easy to perform should lift occur.

Please note - heat exacerbates color shift, if you start to notice color lift during processing, be extra mindful to keep your heat setting low on the flat iron or curling iron. You want to achieve the maximum smoothness without increasing the lift in color. You can gradually increase the temperature to obtain smooth results and limit color shift.

Permanent alkaline hair color is ideal for use with the Peter Coppola® a-Keratin Smoothing & Refinishing Treatment.

Can this treatment be applied to henna colored hair?

No, we do not recommend applying our treatment to hair that has been colored with Henna.

How long does it take to actually do the treatment?

Processing times vary depending on hair type, length and thickness.

Do I need to clarify the hair more than once before applying the a-Keratin Smoothing and Refinishing Treatment?

Our a-Keratin Clarifying Shampoo was designed to be effective enough for one shampoo prior to treatment, however if a client has excessive product/mineral buildup on hair, you may shampoo the hair first with a retail shampoo and then follow with the clarifying shampoo once.

What products do I use to finish after the treatment in the salon?

You can utilize the Peter Coppola® a-Keratin Smoothing Serum to smooth any leftover flyaways and add moisture and shine to the hair.

What products do I recommend to my client to maintain the treatment at home?

We provide a take home checklist (Click Here to Download a-Keratin Aftercare Guide) for you to personalize your recommendations and instructions for your clients. This card recommends that your client use the correct Peter Coppola® Shampoo and Conditioner designed for their hair type.

Can I do touch ups with this product?

Yes, the Peter Coppola® a-Keratin Smoothing & Refinishing Treatment is ideal for small area touch ups by the hairline.

Can you do the treatment on permed or relaxed hair? What about highlighted hair?

Yes! When performing the treatment on previously permed or relaxed hair, only apply the treatment to new growth and pay special attention to the temperature of your flat iron, keeping it between 320-400° Fahrenheit, depending on the hair type and condition.

The a-Keratin Smoothing and Refinishing Treatment is very gentle and effective but some previously used treatments/relaxers can be very harsh and reactive. On previously “relaxed” hair we recommend taking our treatment to the line of demarcation from previous service (not overlapping). As always, we HIGHLY recommend performing a strand test.

When performing the treatment on highlighted hair, the highlights may lighten. Be sure to pay attention to the temperature of your flat iron, never go above 370° Fahrenheit on high lift blondes.

Will the ocean or pool water affect my clients’ treatment?

No, however rinsing hair thoroughly with fresh water after exposure to salt water or chlorine is always recommended.

PRO TIP* Recommend that your client apply a Peter Coppola® hair mask to their hair prior to swimming for an extra barrier of protection. Their hair will feel extra soft and moisturized after rinsing!

My client is asking for another treatment service, how long do I have to wait before applying the treatment again?

We recommend a minimum of 2 weeks in-between treatments, but as long as the hair is in good enough condition to withstand the heat of processing and has enough elasticity - you can perform the treatment again.
